The Township of Oro-Medonte is literally a tale of two Townships. Oro and Medonte Townships
merged in 1994. The Township lies on the north west shores of lake Simcoe and borders Barrie
to the South, Springwater to the North West and Orillia to the north with a population of
approximately 25,000. The average house price in Oro-Medonte is currently over 1.1 million
dollars.

There are numerous small hamlets found throughout Oro-Medonte Township. Craighurst,
Horseshoe Valley, Warminster, Moonstone, Mount St Louis, Oro Station, Shanty Bay,
Sugarbush and Eight Mile Point to name a few. There is also a significant rural agricultural feel
to Oro-Medonte. There is a great deal of farmland between the many villages and hamlets.
Similar to Springwater Township, Oro-Medonte is literally and outdoor playground for its
residents.

The original Oro area of the Township is home to a waterfront lifestyle. There are
estate style homes with large lots mixed in with older more modest types of homes along with
some palatial homes with gated driveways sitting on the waterfront. Various beaches, marinas
and public boat launches dot the shore area.

Some of the best roading cycling can be found in Oro-Medonte. Ridge road is one of the main
roads running though the south end of the township near the lake. This road is consistently used
by road cyclists and cycling clubs out on their evening and weekend rides. The rail trail is also
here for the mountain bikers. The terrain here is fairly flat.

In contrast, the old Medonte Township, is where the ski hills are located and the terrain is very
hilly. Horseshoe Valley and Mount St Louis Moonstone ski Hills are located in this area of the
township. Horseshoe is a growing resort area with some condominiums located onsite.
Residents in this area enjoy hiking, mountain biking, golf and down Hill skiing.
Hardwood Hills Ski and bike centre is located in Oro-Medonte. Cyclists from all over the GTA
come here to ride and Cross Country Ski. This location was used as the mountain biking venue
for the 2015 Pan Am games
. In the winter, the resort transforms to a state of the art cross
country ski venue with trail groomers.

Homes in Oro-Medonte not unlike homes in Springwater sit on generous lot sizes and the
homes can be more estate like. The lifestyle in Oro-Medonte offers it’s residents is outstanding
with outdoor recreating opportunities at their finger tips. In terms of commuting there is direct
access off Highway 400 once you pass through Barrie.

Why do our clients love living in Springwater Township?

Formerly Vespra Township, Springwater Township lies just outside the Barrie city limits to the Northwest.
The communities of Anten Mills, Centre Vespra, Elmvale, Hillsdale, Midhurst, Minesing, Orr Lake, Phelpston, and Snow Valley are found within Springwater. Springwater is a fantastic area to live and raise a family.

Springwater real estate consists mainly of single family dwellings with some homes having basements  finished for extended family members. There are no condominiums or apartments in Springwater. Springwater residents have all the amenities of Barrie just a stones throw away, yet are just outside the city limits enjoying a quiet lifestyle.

A good portion of Springwater is home to estate style homes on larger lots generally 1/2 acre lots or larger. While there is an estate style component to Springwater there is also a significant rural farming area which encompass cute villages such as Minesing, Phelpston and Elmvale. There are many farms that sell their crops while in season at their family owned vegetable stands.

There are four elementary schools in Springwater. Minesing Central Public School, Huronia Centennial Elementary School, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Forest Hill P.S. in Midhurst which offers French immersion. High school aged children go to high schools in the north end of Barrie - Barrie North Collegiate, Eastview Secondary School, St Joseph's Catholic High School or Elmvale District High School.

Residents here generally enjoy a more community style of living where you can know and speak to your neighbours. Outdoor living is definitely a huge plus in Springwater township. Hiking trails, mountain biking, snowmobiling, golfing, cycling as well as snow shoe trails and down hill skiing at Snow Valley Ski resort all easily accessible.

Recently there have been some newer developed areas such as Centre Vespra and Midhurst Valley subdivisions, which have the more traditional lot sizes one would find in a city. However, Springwater still maintains that small country lifestyle feel. Every Christmas Eve Santa can still be found driving through the entire township with the help of the Springwater volunteer fire fighters.

The positives of living in Springwater Township is the obvious quality of life found in the township with almost every outdoor activity at your fingertips. Your family will enjoy the privacy larger lots of at least 1/2 acre are will afford. Having lived in Springwater for over 30 years I can honestly say a move to Springwater is one of the best moves you could make.
